About Us: Empowering Servant Leaders in Georgia
At Servant Leader Scholars, we believe in the power of servant leadership to transform communities. Founded in Georgia and led by a team of young leaders, our nonprofit is dedicated to empowering students of color through career and leadership opportunities.
Our Vision
We envision a world where students of color not only find equitable pathways to success, but through a spirit of service, become torchbearers, illuminating opportunities for their families and communities.
The Journey of Our Founder
Kevin Nwogu is a proud Georgia native who graduated from the University of Georgia and currently works at Google in Atlanta. Inspired by the incredible support he received from his teachers and peers at Stephenson High School, Kevin founded Servant Leader Scholars in 2019.
During his time at Stephenson, Kevin was challenged and encouraged to reach his full potential. This experience, along with his time at the University of Georgia, ignited his passion for mentorship and community service. Recognizing the disparities in opportunities for students of color, Kevin felt a strong calling from God to give back to his community.
Servant Leader Scholars, initially just a scholarship for students at his alma mater, is now a state-wide nonprofit organization, aiming to break down barriers, inspire future leaders, and encourage a culture of giving back.
"What do you hope to be true in the world because you are in it?" This question guides Nwogu’s passion for equity and empowerment, and his belief that everyone has the potential (and even the responsibility) to be an agent of change in their community.

SLS Through the Years
2019
Our journey began with a vision to empower future leaders.
Over the years, Servant Leader Scholars has reached significant milestones. Each achievement reflects our commitment to empowering students and fostering leadership.
Nurturing Future Leaders
The first cohort of two students, Khaden Brown and Brianna Ambler, were awarded the Servant Leader Scholarship. The Servant Leader Scholars Program was later launched to offer more tailored mentorship, community service opportunities, and personal development workshops. The program's goal was to foster a sense of service, leadership, and community among the scholarship recipients.
Growing Impact and Recognition
The organization welcomed its second cohort and gained recognition for its impact, receiving a grant from the University of Georgia. The first SLS Day Retreat was held to connect scholars with industry professionals and provide networking opportunities.
Expanding Horizons
Servant Leader Scholars officially incorporated as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The organization expanded its reach to serve students across all Georgia high schools and colleges, no longer limiting its focus to Stephenson High School. A strong emphasis remained on servant leadership and career guidance.
A Year of Growth and Expansion
The organization experienced significant growth, welcoming its largest cohort of 16 students from schools such as UGA, Georgia Tech, Morehouse, Spelman, and Kennesaw State. To support this growth, an executive team and board of directors were established. The organization continues to focus on its mission of providing scholarships, mentorship, and career advancement opportunities for underrepresented students.
